The body of every piece is brass metal, finished in metallic gold on the dark army and grey on the light one, and a section of wood is set into the middle of each piece.
That band of warmth running through an otherwise metal army is what the series is named for, and it is what makes the set stand out on a shelf of chess sets.
The king stands 94mm, the outline is Victorian, and the complete 34 pieces come to 2,900 grams, which is a great deal of chess set to have sitting on a table.
