It is going on a wall or standing in a room, and it will be looked at far more often than it is played. That changes what matters: scale, finish, and whether the thing still looks deliberate when nobody is playing.

This is the first decision and it is worth making before anything else. A wall-mounted game is fixed where you put it, takes no floor space and reads as wall art between games. A freestanding game takes floor space but needs no fixings, no drilling and no landlord conversation, and it can be moved. Indoors or outdoors

Only the rust-resistant metal games are built for outdoor conditions. The Giant Balls and Balance is rust-resistant metal and ships with a custom-fit weather cover for year-round outdoor protection. The Freestanding XXL Four in a Row is the same construction, rated for sun, wind and light rain, with an optional cover for winter and heavy weather. The wall-mounted boards are interior pieces and belong in a room.

• Giant Chess Wall Game. 112 x 112cm, built from 64 individual 14 x 14cm panels, with a full set of 32 chess pieces included.
• Giant Four in a Row Wall Game. 105 x 110 x 14cm or 128 x 158 x 14cm, in black or white, with a disc collector that mounts below the board.
• Giant Sudoku. 105 x 125 x 8cm in black metal, with a puzzle catalogue and a tile holder included.
• Mega Chinese Checkers. a 100cm colourful metal star board for two to six players, playable on the wall or flat on a table.
• Mega Tic Tac Toe. 100 x 100cm in warm brown wood, with magnetic pieces that store on the board between rounds.

Are these games suitable for outdoor use?

The rust-resistant metal freestanding games are. Giant Balls and Balance includes a weather cover, and the Freestanding XXL Four in a Row has one available. The wall-mounted boards are made for interiors.

Do the wall games come with mounting hardware?

Mounting instructions are included. Wall fixings such as screws and plugs are not, because the right fixing depends on whether you are going into plasterboard, brick or timber. The Giant Chess Wall Game is the exception: its panels carry pre-applied double-sided tape and need no drilling at all.

How long do they take to arrive?

They are rated for ages 3 and up, with adult supervision recommended under 6.
