The makers we carry

Each brand below has its own collection, so you can work through one maker's full range rather than filtering the whole catalogue.

  • Sterling Chess is our own brand and the largest range on the site: timber and plastic sets, boards and pieces sold under our own name.
  • Dal Rossi is an Italian family firm that has been making board game sets since the 1980s. Chess, backgammon, mahjong, checkers, solitaire, pieces and storage.
  • DGT makes the chess timers, electronic sensor boards and chess computers used at rated events.
  • Sunrise Chess & Games is stocked here as chess pieces, in timber.
  • Ferrer Chess covers boards, pieces and complete sets in timber.
  • Royal Selangor makes pewter chess sets, figurative and licensed designs rather than Staunton.
  • Manopoulos is the Greek maker behind the handcrafted metal and themed sets, including classical and Bauhaus designs.
  • Skyline Chess makes stainless steel sets whose pieces are city landmarks rather than Staunton shapes.
  • Archtwain is a design studio making wall mounted games. These are made to order rather than held in stock.

How to use this page

If you know the maker, start here. If you know what you want but not who makes it, the category pages are the faster route: chess sets, chess boards and chess pieces each cover every brand at once and let you filter by size, timber and price.

Frequently asked questions

Is everything Australian stock?

Stock is held in Australia and ships from here, so an order does not wait on international freight. Archtwain wall games are the exception: they are made to order, so ask our team for current lead times before planning around a date.

Is the warranty the same across every brand?

Every product carries a 12 month limited manufacturer warranty as a minimum, covering manufacturing defects and cracking. Archtwain wall games carry a two year warranty. Returns stay open for 100 days across the range.

Which brand should I buy?

It depends on what the set is for. For a playing set at a sensible price, our own range and Dal Rossi cover it. For equipment that has to work at a rated event, DGT. For pieces to put on a board you already own, Sunrise or Ferrer. For a set that is bought to be looked at as much as played, Royal Selangor, Manopoulos or Skyline.

Can you source a maker that is not listed?

Ask our team. Lines come and go with a maker's own production, so we can tell you what is available now and what is on its way.
