Bath Staunton 118mm Chess Pieces

The Bath is a knight led Staunton, and the horse is the reason the pattern exists.

Its posture is upright and regal rather than lunging, the head carried high on a long neck, and it is the piece a collector will look at longest.

Whether the set ends up on a table to be played on or in a cabinet to be looked at, the knight is what you keep coming back to.

Around it the outline is traditional Staunton and deliberately quiet, so nothing else on the board competes with the horse.

The king comes up to 118mm and the army is triple weighted. Look for it in our staunton chess pieces.

About the pieces

Take the knight first, because everything else here is in service of it. It is sophisticated rather than showy, and there is enough of it standing above the base to give the piece real presence.

Every piece is hand carved and hand turned, and the knight is where you can see it. The mane, the muzzle and the set of the jaw are all hand work.

Triple weighting does the rest. At this height there is a lot of piece standing above the board, and the mass keeps everything planted when a hand or a sleeve catches the table.

It also changes how a game feels. Heavy pieces get set down deliberately and stop dead, and after an hour you stop thinking about the pieces and think about the position instead.
