The Grandmaster Supreme is a reproduction of the set used in the USSR World Championships between 1961 and 1974.
The 1961 match was Mikhail Botvinnik against Mikhail Tal, the Magician from Riga. Tal went in as the strong favourite and Botvinnik won it convincingly, which is the kind of history this pattern carries with it.
The army itself is a tall one. It is weighted, it is sold on a single pattern, and there are three options to choose between.
Two of those options are ebonised boxwood against boxwood, and the difference between them is that one of the two carries glass eyes on the face. The third option is golden rosewood.
