Sterling Chess Crown Heritage Luxury 111mm Chess Pieces

Want a tall luxury set with a balanced, classic look? These Crown Heritage luxury chess pieces have a 111mm king, a robust carved knight and a clean Staunton outline.

The pieces are double weighted, with thick green felt on every base. With a broad 46mm king base, this set suits a board with 60mm squares. Each set is handmade in India.

Choose genuine ebony or bud rosewood for the dark side, both with natural boxwood. Two spare queens are included, but no board or box. See more in our luxury chess pieces collection.

Sterling Chess Crown Heritage luxury chess pieces in genuine ebony and natural boxwood, 111mm king

Key features

  • 111mm king on a broad 46mm base
  • Robust carved knight
  • Queen and king on near matching bases
  • Clean luxury Staunton outline
  • Genuine ebony or bud rosewood
  • Natural boxwood light pieces
  • Double weighted, about 1,724g
  • 34 pieces, including two spare queens

The Crown Heritage chess set

The knight carries the character of this set. It's a robust, carved horse with plenty of detail, while the rest of the set keeps a clean luxury Staunton line.

The queen stands 93mm on a 45mm base, almost the same footprint as the king. That gives the two royal pieces a matched look on the back rank.

Every piece has a wide base, so the set looks solid and settled on a large board.

The knights are carved by hand, so each one has its own small differences, while the turned pieces match closely across the set. Two spare queens are included, so you're always ready for pawn promotion.

Carved knight from the Crown Heritage chess pieces

Genuine ebony or bud rosewood Crown Heritage chess pieces?

Both options share the same design and size. The difference is the timber of the dark pieces.

Genuine ebony is a dense, naturally black timber. Because the colour runs right through the wood, it won't wear through to a lighter shade over time. Bud rosewood is a rich, reddish brown timber with lively grain, so no two pieces look quite the same.

The light pieces are natural boxwood, and the full set comes to about 1,724g with double weighting.

If you like a large luxury set with a standout knight, compare it with our Arabian Knight 107mm pieces.

Our expert take

"This is a tall, well balanced luxury set with a knight that has real character. It's double weighted rather than triple, so it's not the heaviest set at this size. For a player who wants a classic luxury look on a large board, it's a lovely choice."

Frequently asked questions

What size chess board do I need for 111mm Crown Heritage chess pieces?

A board with 60mm squares is the best match for the broad bases. Our Dark Brown Indian Rosewood & Maple 58cm board and Ebony & Maple Sheesham Border 58cm board both have 60mm squares, or browse the full chess boards collection.

Where are these chess pieces made?

They're handmade in India, so expect small natural differences in grain from piece to piece.

Is a chess board or storage box included?

No. You get the 34 pieces only. The board and box are sold separately.

Are the Crown Heritage chess pieces weighted?

Yes. They're double weighted with thick green felt bases. The full set weighs about 1,724g.

Is the ebony genuine?

Yes. The ebony option uses genuine ebony for the dark pieces, with natural boxwood for the light pieces.

Which timber should I choose?

Genuine ebony gives a classic black and white look. Bud rosewood gives a warmer, reddish brown look. Both cost the same.

Is this a tournament set?

It's a luxury set, larger than a standard tournament size, so it suits home play and display best.

Do I get spare queens?

Yes, one in each colour, so you get 34 pieces.

How do I look after these chess pieces?

Wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. Keep them out of direct sunlight and away from heat and water, as the pieces aren't waterproof.
