Sterling Chess Indian Chetak II Luxury 109mm Chess Pieces

Want a luxury set with a knight full of history? These Indian Chetak II luxury chess pieces are named after Chetak, the legendary war horse of Maharana Pratap, with a 109mm king and a richly carved knight.

The pieces are triple weighted and hand polished, with collar rings and thick green felt on every base. This set suits a board with 60mm squares. Each set is handmade in India.

Choose genuine ebony or bud rosewood for the dark side, both with boxwood. Two spare queens are included, but no board or box. See more in our luxury chess pieces collection.

Sterling Chess Indian Chetak II luxury chess pieces in genuine ebony and boxwood, 109mm king

Key features

  • 109mm king on a broad base
  • Named after the horse Chetak
  • Version 2.0 carved knight
  • Turned collar rings
  • Genuine ebony or bud rosewood
  • Boxwood light pieces
  • Triple weighted, about 2,200g
  • 34 pieces, including two spare queens

The Indian Chetak II chess set

Chetak is the legendary horse of Maharana Pratap, the Rajput king who fought at the Battle of Haldighati in 1576. Stories of his loyalty and courage are still told across India.

This is the second version of the set. The knight has been improved, with more detail in the eyes, nostrils, teeth and mane.

Around the knight is a luxury Staunton with a 109mm king and a 96mm queen.

The knights are carved by hand, so each one has its own small differences, while the turned pieces match closely across the set. Two spare queens are included, so you're always ready for pawn promotion.

Carved Chetak knight from the Indian Chetak II chess pieces

Genuine ebony or bud rosewood Indian Chetak II chess pieces?

Both options share the same design. The difference is the timber of the dark pieces.

Genuine ebony is a dense, naturally black timber. Because the colour runs right through the wood, it won't wear through to a lighter shade over time. Bud rosewood is a rich, reddish brown timber with lively grain, so no two pieces look quite the same.

The pieces are triple weighted, and the full set comes to about 2,200g, so they feel heavy and solid on the board.

If you like a horse-inspired knight, compare it with our Arabian Knight 107mm pieces.

Our expert take

"The Chetak knight is a beautiful piece of carving with a great story behind it. It's a big, heavy set that needs a board with 60mm squares. For a player who wants a luxury set with real meaning, it's a fantastic choice."
