Sterling Chess Luxury Imperial Triple Weighted 112mm Chess Pieces

Want a big, heavy luxury Staunton? These Luxury Imperial triple weighted chess pieces have a 112mm king on a broad 51mm base and a finely carved knight.

The pieces are triple weighted, and the full set comes to about 1,800g. This set suits a board with 55mm to 60mm squares. Each set is handmade in India.

Choose genuine ebony or bud rosewood for the dark side, both with boxwood. Two spare queens are included, but no board or box. See more in our luxury chess pieces collection.

Sterling Chess Luxury Imperial chess pieces in genuine ebony and boxwood, 112mm king

Key features

  • 112mm king on a broad 51mm base
  • Classic luxury Staunton shape
  • Finely carved knight
  • Wide bases on every piece
  • Genuine ebony or bud rosewood
  • Boxwood light pieces
  • Triple weighted, about 1,800g
  • 34 pieces, including two spare queens

The Luxury Imperial chess set

This is a classic luxury Staunton at a generous size, with a 112mm king and a 97mm queen.

The bases are broad. The king sits on a 51mm base, and the bishop, knight and rook all share a 39mm base, so the set stands firm on the board.

Every piece shows off its carving, and the knight is where you'll see it most.

The knights are carved by hand, so each one has its own small differences, while the turned pieces match closely across the set. Two spare queens are included, so you're always ready for pawn promotion.

Luxury Imperial ebony chess pieces with broad, steady bases

Genuine ebony or bud rosewood Luxury Imperial chess pieces?

Both options share the same design and size, and both cost the same. The difference is the timber of the dark pieces.

Genuine ebony is a dense, naturally black timber. Because the colour runs right through the wood, it won't wear through to a lighter shade over time. Bud rosewood is a rich, reddish brown timber with lively grain, so no two pieces look quite the same.

The pieces are triple weighted, and the full set comes to about 1,800g, so they feel heavy and settled in your hand.

If you'd like a similar size in bud rosewood, compare it with our Indian American 112mm pieces.

Our expert take

"This is a heavy, handsome luxury set that feels great to play with. The broad bases need a board with big squares, so it won't suit a small board. For a player who wants a serious luxury Staunton for home, it's a great choice."

Frequently asked questions

What size chess board do I need for 112mm Luxury Imperial chess pieces?

A board with 55mm to 60mm squares is the best match for the broad bases. Our Dark Brown Indian Rosewood & Maple 58cm board and Ebony & Maple Sheesham Border 58cm board both have 60mm squares, or browse the full chess boards collection.

Where are these chess pieces made?

They're handmade in India, so expect small natural differences in grain from piece to piece.

Is a chess board or storage box included?

No. You get the 34 pieces only. The board and box are sold separately.

Are the Luxury Imperial chess pieces weighted?

Yes. They're triple weighted, and the full set weighs about 1,800g.

Which timber should I choose?

Genuine ebony gives a classic black and white look. Bud rosewood gives a warmer, reddish brown look. Both cost the same.

Is this a tournament set?

It's a large luxury set, bigger than a standard tournament size, so it suits home play and display best.

Why do the weights vary slightly?

Each piece is turned from natural timber, so the set weight can vary a little from set to set.

Do I get spare queens?

Yes, one in each colour, so you get 34 pieces.

How do I look after these chess pieces?

Wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. Keep them out of direct sunlight and away from heat and water, as the pieces aren't waterproof.
