There is a lot of shape in the Supreme. The king stands 106mm and the army is weighted.

The vocabulary is the familiar one, but the detail goes further. King, queen and rook are double headed, the bishops are shaped like minarets, and the knights wear a bridled mane with reins across the snout.

Three dark timbers are on offer here, golden rosewood, bud rosewood or ebonised boxwood, and each one faces a pale boxwood light army.

The set weighs 1,340 grams complete. The weighting loads that mass into the bases, so a piece you have let go of stays where it landed while you work out the next move.
