Taj Mahal Staunton 84mm Chess Pieces

The Taj Mahal Staunton takes its shapes from Mughal architecture, and the rook is where you see it first. It is a tapering minaret rather than a crenellated tower.

The queen and the bishop carry the same influence in their finials, and the knight is drawn with a longer, more upright neck than the English pattern usually gives it.

What it does not do is make you work. The Staunton discipline is intact, every rank keeps its own unmistakable outline, and you can read a position from across a table.

The king stands 84mm, which puts the set between a compact army and a full sized one, and two timber pairings are offered on the identical shapes.
